Sarah Kokernot’s fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in The Best American Short Stories 2015, Crazyhorse, Front Porch, West Branch, Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet,decomP, and PANK. Born and raised in Kentucky, she received her MFA in creative writing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she wrote fiction and learned how to survive in the desert. In addition to Sin City, Sarah has resided in the Live Music Capital of the World, Pennsylvania Dutch Country, and the giant wheat field that is Eastern Washington. She likes reading heavy novels that can double as doorstops and frequently uses jogging as an excuse to watch dogs play in the park.
She lives in Chicago with her husband, writer Juan Martinez, and their son. Sarah has a background in bilingual education and has taught students from ages four to sixty-four. She is the program coordinator at 826CHI, a non-profit writing and tutoring center. She is currently at work on a novel.
