Manuel Martinez earned his MFA in fiction writing from the University of Florida where he studied with Padgett Powell and Harry Crews. His fiction has appeared in African American Review, The Quarterly, Blackbird, The Sun, The Los Angeles Review, The Literarian, as well as other publications. He received the Hurston/Wright award in 1994, and was an Emerging Writers Fellow at the Center for Fiction in New York from 2012-2013. He teaches English and Writing at Queensborough Community College.
