Ellen Adams writes fiction, essays, and songs, with a particular interest in the unexpected doorways between kinship and estrangement.

​Recently selected a Ploughshares Emerging Writer and a Lambda Literary Fellow, she is revising a novel and developing a book-length work of nonfiction. Her work has appeared Black Warrior ReviewKenyon Review OnlineCrazyhorse, Southwest Review, Singapore Art Museum, and elsewhere. Her nonfiction was listed among notable works in the 2019 collection of Best American Essays. Her current projects are supported by grants from the Elizabeth George Foundation and Artist Trust. As a Fulbright grantee, she researched politically engaged contemporary art in Thailand. She has been awarded residencies by Hedgebrook, Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Centre Pompadour, and Marble House Project, among others. She has taught literature and media at Payap University, writing at Brooklyn College, and prose workshops to adult and youth writers. Within the development sector, her work as a speechwriter has been featured in keynote addresses for academic and scientific symposiums.
