We are the oldest MFA Program in the state of Washington located in the heart of literary downtown Spokane, home of the nationally acclaimed annual literary festival Get Lit!. In addition to our many teaching and scholarship opportunities, we have fully funded GSA positions for second-year students in book and magazine publishing, community outreach and arts administration. We are a small, hands-on program with a core faculty of dedicated, nationally recognized writers. We are the only program in the region with full-fledged internship programs in teaching, publishing, arts administration, and community outreach.

Teaching opportunities

Teaching assistantships are available for incoming students. These appointments award the recipient with a full, in-state or out-of-state tuition waiver and monthly stipend.

Yes. Both in book publishing and magazine publishing. 

Cross-genre study

Students are required to take coursework in areas other than the one in which they concentrate.
