Funding is available for the majority of graduate students via teaching and research assistantships, and there are additional student work options on campus. As Graduate Teaching Assistants, students also have the opportunity to teach creative writing. Students receive funding from the Graduate School, the English Department, and the Student Association of Graduates in English (SAGE) to present at and to attend conferences.

Graduate students have the opportunity to gain valuable editorial experience working with Beecher's magazine, the graduate student-run national literary journal housed at the University of Kansas.
