Roger Atwood

Born in 1962 in Boston, Roger Atwood migrated to Argentina in 1984 and took Argentine permanent residence, establishing his career in journalism in South America before returning to the USA in 1997. He has written for major magazines and newspapers in the USA, the UK, and Latin America. His book "Stealing History: Tomb Raiders, Smugglers, and the Looting of the Ancient World" (2004) studied the global illicit antiquities trade with a focus on Peru; a reviewer in the American Journal of Archaeology called it the best book on the subject in 30 years. He had an Alicia Patterson fellowship and taught writing at the University of the District of Columbia and Universidad Central de Venezuela. He lives currently in Australia, with his husband Werner Romero.
