Reginald Saner was born in Jacksonville, Illinois. He earned his BA at St. Norbert College in Wisconsin then served in the military during the Korean War. He then studied philosophy and Renaissance culture at the University of Illinois and in Florence, Italy, under a Fulbright Scholarship.
