Close to 75 percent of our full-time students are funded through some form of assistantship. Various assistantships give students the opportunity to work as tutors in the Writing Center; in various MFA Creative Writing Program Assistant capacities.; OR (depending on their credentials*) as composition instructors

Teaching opportunities

Graduate Teaching Assistants assigned to the classroom must have an MA in a field directly related to the classroom assignment. Further, graduate students planning on teaching composition at some point during their stint in the MFA program are typically advised to take ENGL 664 (Teaching College Composition) in the semester before, or current with, the teaching assignment. They are also typically required to attend the University- or College-wide GTAI (Graduate Teaching Assistant Institute), among other similar orientations.
