Matt Jones is a graduate of The University of Alabama's MFA Program in Creative Writing. He received his BA from St. Edward's University and is originally from Houston, TX. He teaches English, Composition, and Rhetoric at the college-level, and will serve as a co-instructor of the Mercantile Library's "Fundamentals of Fiction Workshop" in fall 2018.

Matt was recently awarded an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award for 2018, and has been the recipient of scholarships to the River Teeth Nonfiction Conference and the Wesleyan Writers Conference. In the summer of 2018, he served as a writer-in-residence at Willowtail Springs and the Leopold Writing Program. He will also serve as writer-in-residence at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in winter/spring of 2019.

Matt's work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and two Best of the Net Awards. His pieces have also been selected as a finalist for 2018 Nelson Algren Literary Award, semi-finalist in the 2017 American Short Fiction Prize, an Honorable Mention in the 2016 Texas Observer Short Story Contest, and a finalist for Creative Nonfiction's "Learning from Nature" Contest. His most recent work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Chicago Tribune, Columbia Review, Full Grown People, The Manifest Station, Michigan Quarterly Review, The Normal School, PopMatters, and The Southern Review.

He is currently at work on an essay collection and a collaborative novel with Jess E. Jelsma
