Maryann Corbett was born in Washington, DC, and grew up in northern Virginia. She earned a BA in English in 1972 from the College of William and Mary and an MA in English and PhD in English Language and Literature in 1981 from the University of Minnesota, with a specialization in medieval literature and linguistics. She has published four books of poetry: Breath Control (2012); Credo for the Checkout Line in Winter (2013), which was a finalist for the Able Muse Book Prize; Mid Evil (2014), the winner of the Richard Wilbur Award, and Street View (2017), again a finalist for the Able Muse Book Prize. In 2009, Corbett was the co-winner of the Willis Barnstone Translation Award. She lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
