Maria Reva is a writer based in Austin, Texas. Her stories have appeared, or are forthcoming, in The Atlantic, The New Quarterly, The Malahat Review, Tin House Flash Fridays, The Journey Prize Stories and The Best American Short Stories 2017.
Her musical collaborations include an opera libretto for ERATO Ensemble, texts for Vancouver International Song Institute’s Art Song Lab, and a script for City Opera Vancouver. In March 2017, musica intima vocal ensemble premiered Uta’s Escape, a commission by Canadian composer Jennifer Butler based on one of Maria’s stories.
Maria was born in Ukraine and grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from the University of British Columbia. She completed the Southbank Writers’ Program at Simon Fraser University under the mentorship of Renée Sarojini Saklikar, and is currently a fiction fellow at the Michener Center for Writers. She is at work on a linked story collection set in Soviet Ukraine.
