Lisa Solod was born in 1956 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She graduated from Brown Univesity in 1978 with an A.B. with honors in Semiotics. She also doubled majored in American Civilization. Her thesis consisted of three journalistic articles, one of which, on adult children of divorce, was published in a Rhode Island newspaper during her senior year.
