Kaylie Jones is an American writer, memoirist and novelist. She is the daughter of National Book Award-winning novelist James Jones (From Here to Eternity).
Lies My Mother Never Told Me, a memoir, describes her life growing up in Paris and Sagaponack, New York as the child of a celebrated author and a beautiful, competitive and witty mother, Gloria Jones, a former actress and a stand-in for Marilyn Monroe, who became an editor at Doubleday with her friend, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Gloria Jones's close circle of friends included Lauren Bacall, Betty Comden, Phyllis Newman, and Ellen Adler, the daughter of Stella Adler. Kaylie Jones's relationship with her mother became more combative after her father's death in 1977.
She has taught in the public schools of New York City through Teachers & Writers Collaborative and has organized a symposium at Southampton College in memory of her father, who died in 1977. She is a graduate of Wesleyan University and Columbia University's School of the Arts.
