Kate Harris is a writer and adventurer with a grudge against borders and a knack for getting lost. Named one of Canada's top 10 adventurers by Explore magazine, and winner of the Ellen Meloy Desert Writers Award, her essays, poetry, travel features and photography have appeared in Sierra, Orion, Wend, Arc Poetry Magazine, CutBank, Outpost, and elsewhere.
As a Rhodes and Morehead-Cain scholar, Kate studied biology, geology, the history of science, and bike racing at UNC-Chapel Hill, Oxford, and MIT. She is most widely known for CYCLING SILK, a ten-month, ten-country, ten-thousand-km, two-woman expedition by bike along the Silk Road. Kate has travelled to all seven continents, and for a long time wanted to hitch a rocket to Mars.
