Joy Harjo was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is a member of the Mvskoke Nation. Her eight books of poetry, which includes such well-known titles as Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings, How We Became Human- New and Selected Poems, She Had Some Horses have garnered many awards. These include the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Ruth Lilly Prize from the Poetry Foundation, the Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets, and the William Carlos Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America. Her memoir Crazy Brave was awarded the PEN Award for Creative Non-Fiction. Forthcoming are a play Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light a Play by Joy Harjo and a Circle of Responses, and a book of poetry An American Sunrise.
