Joel Whitney

Joel Whitney is a Brooklyn-based freelance writer. His writing on books, the arts and politics appears in such outlets as The New York Times, Salon, The Daily Beast, The Wall Street Journal, Boston Review, The Sun Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle, NPR, World Policy Journal, The New Republic, Dissent, New York Magazine, and The Village Voice. A recent web editor at Al Jazeera America, Joel’s writing has been translated into French, Russian, and German. With photographer Brett Van Ort, Joel co-authored the 2013 TED Talks ebook on landmine eradication, Minescape. His poems have appeared in The Paris Review, The Nation, and Agni, and he was awarded a “Discovery”/The Nation Prize in 2003 by the 92nd Street Y and The Nation for his poems. His essay in Salon was a Notable in the 2013 Best American Essays.
