Jeremy Elliott studied ecocriticism with Paul Outka at Florida State University, and is an associate professor in the Language and Literature department at Abilene Christian University. Recent research centers around place, bodies, and reading. How do the physical location and action of our bodies affect how we encounter a text? In keeping with these ideas, this past May, Jeremy taught a poetry field course, in which students read poems written by detained children while standing outside the fence of an ICE family detention center, as well as various Texas environmental writers while camping in Big Bend National Park. Recent representative publications include a creative nonfiction piece "Christ in the Desert," in Passages, and "'About Our Ancestors' Business:' Contemporary Native Religious Practices and The White Shaman Mural" in Southwest Review.
