Jennifer Maritza McCauley is a writer and poet of African-American and Puerto Rican descent, who teaches, researches, and writes at the University of Missouri, where she is completing her Ph.D. in creative writing as a Gus T. Ridgel Fellow. She is also a graduate of Florida International University’s MFA program, where she was awarded an inaugural John S. & James L. Knight Fellowship in fiction and received a B.A. from University of Pittsburgh in English Writing.
She has received creative writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts for Prose (2018), CantoMundo, Kimbilio, and Sundress Academy of the Arts. She is currently Poetry Editor for The Missouri Review, Fiction Editor at Pleaides and formerly Contest Editor at Missouri Review. She has held editorial and staff positions at Origins Literary Journal, Fjords Review, Sliver of Stone, The Florida Book Review and Gulf Stream Magazine. She has received a Best of the Net Award in Non-Fiction (2017), an Academy of American Poets University Award (2016), was a finalist for the Prairie Schooner Book Prize for Prose (2018) and her hybrid/poetry collection SCAR ON/SCAR OFF won Bronze in the Independent Publisher Awards (2018).
