Jane Cawthorne is a passionate advocate for women's rights and a woman's right to choose. Jane began writing professionally in 2007. She tends to write about women and their struggles. Her writing has appeared in journals, magazines and newspapers. In 2011, her story Weight was a finalist for the Writers Guild of Alberta Howard O'Hagan Prize for Short Fiction. In 2007, her essay The Cure for a Cancer Cliché was short-listed for the 2007 Prism International Creative Non-Fiction Contest.
Jane started her career as a public school teacher. She received an M. Ed. from the University of Toronto in 1999 with a research focus on new reproductive and genetic technology and biotechnology. From 1999 to 2006, Jane was an instructor of Women's Studies at Mount Royal College where she won the Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award. During her time at Mount Royal, she published articles on women's health, education and public policy.
