Inara Verzemnieks is an Arts Fellow in the Iowa Writers Workshop's Nonfiction Writing Program. Before going back to school to pursue her MFA, she worked as a newspaper reporter for 13 years. Her first assignment, at 22, was covering a suburban police beat. In 2007, she was named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in feature writing.
