Geri Ulrey is a writer, filmmaker and educator living in Los Angeles. She has been published in Gulf Coast and The Carolina Quarterly. Her essay, 13th & B, is a "Notable Essay" in "Best American Essays 2016." She was a finalist for the 2016 Gulf Coast Prize in Nonfiction, received an Honorable Mention for Glimmer Train's Short Story Award for New Writers and shortlisted as a finalist for the 2015 Disquiet International Literature Award in nonfiction. She writes fiction, creative nonfiction and screenplays.
Both of Geri's narrative short films, "The Break" and "Pink no.22," have screened at numerous film festivals worldwide, each winning awards along the way. She is currently in post-production on a short film she wrote and directed for which she won a Creative and Research Grant from California State University, Northridge and a Panavision Emerging Filmmaker Grant.
Geri is the chair of the Media Arts Department at Glendale Community College where she teaches film and television production, directing and editing. Before teaching at Glendale Community College, she spent over ten years teaching production courses in the Department of Cinema and Television Arts at California State University, Northridge. She holds an MFA in film directing and production from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television and a BA in drama from Vassar College.
