George Matteson

George Matteson took a creative writing class at Middlebury College in 1970, moved to New York City to become a writer, but turned into a tugboat captain instead. After 20 years working in New York Harbor and East Coast waters he turned back into a writer. He is author of DRAGGERMEN: Fishing on Georges Bank (Scholastic/Four Winds Press, 1978), a poetry collection, That Miraculous Land (East River Press, 1983), and TUGBOATS OF NEW YORK: An Illustrated History (NYU Press, 2005). TUGBOAT STORIES is forthcoming.
