Francine Merasty is a member of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation from Pelican Narrows, Sk.
She is a lawyer and a poet. She is the author of poetry collection, Poetry of a Northern Rez Girl (Bookland Press, 2021). She holds a BA and JD from the University of Saskatchewan. Francine began writing poetry while working for the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls as a way to release trauma associated with being a witness to horrific events. She presently works with Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation as an Executive Assistant to Chief Karen Bird.
