E. A. Durden grew up in North Carolina. She studied art history as an undergraduate at Princeton, and creative writing as a graduate student at New York University. She has taught writing and literature at New York University and Prescott College, and won fellowships from The Fine Arts Work Center and The Ucross Foundation. In 2009, Glimmer Train honored her with The Short Story Award for New Writers. The winning piece was named a Distinguished Story of 2009 in Best American Short Stories. More work is forthcoming from Glimmer Train and Border Crossing. She lives in Seattle.
