Dawn S. Davies has an MFA from Florida International University. She has been the fiction editor of Gulf Stream Magazine, and the graduate coordinator for Writers on the Bay Reading Series. She has won two FIU Student Literary Awards for nonfiction, the Kentucky Women Writers’ Gabehart Prize, the FIU Provost Award for Best Creative Project, and several residencies. With 25 publications in the last two years, her work has so far appeared in River Styx, River Teeth, Brain,Child, Hippocampus, Cease, Cows, Chautauqua, Ninth Letter, Saw Palm and Fourth Genre, among other journals, as well as various anthologies.
She has written advertising copy for a scientific publishing house, written and edited online high school and college-level courses, written the ever-ambiguous “web content” for pay, written educational children’s books, and edited books for publication. She also teaches college composition and creative writing to various groups.
When able, she lifts weights, likes to paddle board, has perseverative dreams that include owning an empire of laundromats, living in the woods, and sticking it to the man. She eats a mostly Paleo diet, and yes, she is as annoying about Paleo as everyone else on Paleo.
She splits her time between Greenville, SC and Fort Lauderdale, FL and is proud to be FloGrown.
