Best-selling author and private tour guide David Downie holds undergraduate degrees in political science and Italian literature from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was graduated first in his class in both departments, and an MA in Italian literature and history from Brown University, where he was a University Fellow and Kenyon Scholar. Downie has been based in Paris for over three decades. He spends part of each year in Burgundy and Italy. His novel THE GARDENER OF EDEN was published in 2019 by Pegasus Books; Booklist praised it for "expertly captur[ing] the powerlessness and courage of those in peril." A TASTE OF PARIS: A History of the Parisian Love Affair with Food, was published in 2017 by St. Martin's Press; The New York Times praised Downie's "beautiful style" and "knifelike pen."
