David Brooks is an acclaimed Australian poet, short-fiction-writer, novelist and essayist. His most recent work is Animal Dreams, a collection of his essays on animals in contemporary literature, philosophy and public policy (University of Sydney Press 2021). He was the founding director of the graduate writing program at the University of Sydney, and for nineteen years managing co-editor of the journal Southerly.
