Catherine Pierce is the author of three books of poetry: The Tornado Is the World (forthcoming, Saturnalia 2016), The Girls of Peculiar (Saturnalia 2012), winner of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Poetry Prize, and Famous Last Words (Saturnalia 2008), winner of the Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize. Her chapbook, Animals of Habit (Kent State University Press), was published in 2004. Her poems have appeared in The Best American Poetry, Best New Poets, Slate, Boston Review, Ploughshares, FIELD, The Cincinnati Review, Ninth Letter, Court Green, Crab Orchard Review, Indiana Review, Gulf Coast, Barrow Street, The Normal School, Blackbird, diode, Mid-American Review, Pleiades, Crazyhorse, and elsewhere. Catherine grew up in Delaware, then earned her B.A. from Susquehanna University, her M.F.A. from the Ohio State University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. She now lives in Starkville, Mississippi, where she is an associate professor and co-director of the creative writing program at Mississippi State University.
