Brooke Allen

Allen is the author of five books: Twentieth Century Attitudes: Literary Powers in Uncertain Times (named a New York Times Notable Book); Artistic License: Three Centuries of Good Writing and Bad BehaviorMoral Minority: Our Skeptical Founding Fathers, a study of the religious beliefs (or lack thereof) of the American Founders; a travel book, The Other Side of the Mirror: An American Travels in Syria; and a brief biography, Benazir Bhutto: Favored Daughter. She is also co-editor of Yours in Haste and Adoration: The Selected Letters of Terry Southern. Allen’s essays and reviews have appeared in The AtlanticThe New York Times Book ReviewThe Wall Street JournalThe New CriterionThe Hudson Review, and numerous other publications. She is married to photographer Peter Aaron. Allen has taught at Bennington since Spring 2011.
