Shawn Fawson’s work appears in journals such as Georgia ReviewSoutheast ReviewLouisville ReviewCutBankBellingham Review, among others. She holds an MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts, and has won awards from the Academy of American Poets, Press 53, Sonora Review, Lumina Journal, Francis Locke Memorial Prize, and New American Press. She was twice a notable in Best American Essays and winner of three chapbook awards.

Her first book of poems, Giving Way was published by The Bitter Oleander Press and won the 2010 Utah Book Award for Poetry.

She was granted a Collegeville Institute for Ecumenical & Cultural Research Fellowship in 2012 and an Elizabeth Iliff Warren Fellowship in 2015.

Shawn grew up in many places and now lives in Colorado. She is a PRN hospital chaplain and a doctoral student in the joint PhD program at the Iliff School of Theology and the University of Denver where she studies the intersections of theology, religion and contemporary poetry. 

Her companions include the painter Steven Fawson and their three children.
