Samuel Autman specializes in the personal essay.  His  “Invisible Nails,” won first place in the SLS-Disquiet 2015 Literary Contest in the nonfiction category and will appear in the forthcoming Kept Secret: The Half Truth in Nonfiction published by the Michigan State University Press.. “A Dash of Pepper in the Snow” won the Tara Masih Intercultural Essay contest sponsored by the Soul Making Literary Competition and appears in The Chalk Circle: Prizewinning Intercultural Essays. Autman's other writings have been printed in  Black Gay Genius: Answering Joseph Beam's Call, Ninth Letter, Andrea Reads America, The Common Reader, Under the Gum Tree, The Little Patuxent Review and Brevity.
