Ray Briggs (formerly Rachel Briggs) earned their PhD in philosophy in 2009 from the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at MIT. They held a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Sydney from 2009 to 2012, taught at Australian National University from 2012–2015 and were a member of the Institute for Integrated and Intelligent Systems at Griffith University from 2012–2014. They have no graduate education in creative writing, but learned to be a better poet by attending an undergraduate class at Syracuse University, going to poetry readings, and participating in the Poetry Free-For-All, an online bulletin board for poetry critique.
