Jordan Michael Smith is the author of the bestselling Kindle Single, Humanity: How Jimmy Carter Lost an Election and Transformed the Post-Presidency, a former speechwriter for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Comptroller Scott Stringer, and a communications consultant at the United Nations. His writing has appeared in print and online for many national publications, including the New York Times Magazine, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, BBC and MSNBC.

Jordan’s profile of a professor studying sex offenders was selected for inclusion in the 2019 Best American Science and Nature Writing anthology. His essay on a farm inspired by Tolstoy was listed as "Notable Essay” in the 2019 Best American Essays collection. He has reviewed more than 100 books for the Boston Globe, Slate, The New Republic, and many other outlets. Formerly a Contributing Writer for Salon and the Christian Science Monitor, he has appeared on many radio and television programs in Canada, the United States, Russia and Iraq. He lives in New York City with his dalmatian/basset hound mix, Penny.
