Joan Acocella

Joan B. Acocella (née Ross, born 1945) is an American journalist who is the dance and book critic for The New Yorker. She has written several books on dance, literature, and psychology.
Acocella received her B.A. in English in 1966 from the University of California, Berkeley. She earned a Ph.D. in comparative literature at Rutgers University in 1984 with a thesis on the Ballets Russes. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1993.
