Christina Wood Martinez was born and raised in San Diego, California. A graduate of the MFA program at Washington University in St. Louis, she is currently enrolled in the University of Georgia's Creative Writing PhD program. Her fiction has appeared in Granta, Virginia Quarterly Review, the Sewanee Review, The Literary Review, and other journals. Her story "The Astronaut" (Granta, 2018) won the 2018 Shirley Jackson Award for Short Fiction and was a Best American Short Fiction 2019 "notable."
