A native of Missoula, Montana, Caroline Patterson is an artist in the schools in Helena, Montana, where she lives with her husband, Fred Haefele, a writer, and two children. She edited Montana Women Writers: A Geography of the Heart, which won a Willa Gold award in 2006 for nonfiction, and Sarah Carter's Montana Women Homesteaders: A Field of One's Own, winner of a 2010 Willa silver medal. She wrote Who Pooped in the Zoo? with the San Diego Zoo, which won a Ben Franklin Bronze award for children's nonfiction. She has published stories in Alaska Quarterly Review, Epoch, Southwest Review, Salamander, and Seventeen. She has received a Wallace Stegner Fellowship in fiction from Stanford University, fellowships from the Montana Arts Council, the Alison Deming Foundation, the Vogelstein Foundation and the Henfield Foundation, as well as the Jackson Prize in Fiction from the San Francisco Foundation. She has just completed a novel, Stone Sister.
