Financial Aid

In the first year, all students who apply receive scholarships and grants to reduce tuition costs. Writing students typically receive scholarships in the region of $8,000-$12,000.

Teaching opportunities

In their second year, students who have successfully completed the Teaching Practicum, and are deemed to be in good standing are eligible for Teaching Assistantships. Teaching Assistants conduct one undergraduate writing section per semester, and receive a stipend of $6,200 for the year.

Editorial opportunities

Opportunities to intern with Black Clock (the program's journal) and Les Figues (CalArts's small press) are available through competitive applications

Cross-genre study

Yes. The program is non-genre specific and interdisciplinary work is encouraged, although acceptance to Interschool MFA or Integrated Media is required for some options
